Fear vs Respect

Fear is a negative feeling and shows one’s weakness. It comes when one person is guilty of something or sheer helplessness. This feeling is felt when one senses danger, which can occur anywhere, at work, with family, or with friends. It is very truly said by Franklin D. Roosevelt that “The only thing we have to fear is fear itself”. Rather than being afraid of other things, we should be scared of fear itself. Fear scares one from the repercussion before they act upon it.

Respect is a positive feeling and shows one’s strength. It is something that one has to earn, and cannot force others to respect them. “Respect toward others can’t be imposed. It’s a blessing.. or learning the hard way” – Toba Beta. Correctly said, we cannot force ourselves to respect somebody. This is a natural feeling that comes inside us for eg, respecting our teachers, parents. Even when we are told that we should respect them as they are elder to us, the urge should be from within us to respect them.

It is said that “It is better to be respected by few than to be feared by all”. When a person is scared of something, then he/she will lose the self- confidence that they have inside themselves whereas when we are given respect by others, our confidence level rises to some extent. Respect can never be measured in quantity and can never be traded. It is something which is built over time but can also be lost in blink of an eye. To earn respect from others, we must consider their feelings and thoughts. Fear can manipulate and control people’s life. But respect is a positive aspect and everybody wants it and nobody wants to lose it.

To succeed in life, one should clear their mind from all the fears and devote it to positive thoughts. Respect should never be given out of fear, rather it should be given out of love. In the same way, we cannot gain respect from others by fearing them. People who give respect out of fear is just for certain period of time. Gaining respect is just a reflection of giving respect. So, in order to be respected, we should first learn how to respect others. So, to conclude I would just say that fear can destroy a person but respect can re-build the confidence inside them.

Confidence vs Arrogance

Before starting off with the difference, let us first know what these terms actually are.   “If you have no confidence in self, you are twice defeated in the race of life. With confidence, you have won before you have started.” – Marcus Tullius Cicero
Confidence is a positive feeling which a peace-minded person possesses and believes not only in himself but also in others, who do not feel the urge to prove themselves to others. A confident person believes he/she is right and is not afraid of others who see things from a different point of view.

On the other hand Arrogance – “It is a creature. It does not have senses. It has only a sharp tongue and the pointing finger. “ – Toba Beta
Well defined, it is a false perception, a negative attitude and egoist people who think that they are better than everybody else. They have the idea that they are superior and they do not listen to others. If things do not work as expected, they either blame others or the situation itself.

“There’s a thin line between Confidence and Arrogance. It’s called Humility. Confidence smiles. Arrogance smirks." – Anonymous
Truly said, humility is the quality of being respectful. If this thin line breaks, it will lead to arrogance, the same way when confidence smiles, arrogance smiles too but in a silly way. People usually get confused with these terms. These terms may look similar but if we look closely they are totally different in real life. Confidence is good but too much of confidence can lead to arrogance. Likewise, too much of a good thing turns into a bad thing. Confidence is fearless, confident people have the belief that they can do anything anyone else can do and  are usually quiet and can stay alone. Whereas, arrogance is full of insecurity. Arrogant people believe that others can’t do what they can do and are actually loud. Arrogant person cannot be alone, they cannot be by themselves, and involves other people. Arrogant people attract those who have equal ego inside them. These people work together, and make others inferior to themselves. These people use each other, and when problems arises, they are found nowhere. Confident people never put others down to feel better about themselves or their achievements but arrogant people do feel this way.

Confident people are aware that nobody is perfect, so rather than pointing it out, they usually accept others as well as their own flaws, but on the other hand, arrogant people think that only they are correct. Confident people also accept other’s thoughts and views while arrogant people count their own thoughts and beliefs only. So, its clear that confidence and arrogance are North and South poles, and should be careful of not turning their confidence into overconfidence i.e., arrogance. So, middle place is always the best and balanced too.

Knowing myself..

      Ques.    Who am I?
Ans.     To be frank I am no special person but just a normal human being who loves being happy. Living a simple and normal life is all I wish for. I think I am a very cheerful girl who keeps smiling all the time, though I am a little mischievous too. I see myself as a very friendly person and at the same time very lazy too.  I am just a normal teenager who wants to fulfill all her dreams. So, I would like to conclude it by saying that I possess some good as well as some bad habits which I would like to overcome.

Ques.    Where am I in my life?
Ans.      Right now, I am in a very crucial stage, where I need someone to guide me so that I can know what is wrong and what is right. I cannot actually be sure of ‘where am I’ but I know that whatever I am doing is not only my destiny but is also a decision for my upcoming future. So, the place that I am in is not determined. I am just in the process of making my career.

Ques.    Why am I doing this assignment?
Ans.      I am doing this assignment to actually know about myself. Before this, I never gave such a long thought upon myself. But now, by thinking about this, I am actually getting to know what am I. By doing this assignment, I am getting to know the strong as well as weak points inside me so that I can overcome all the weakness that I have.

Ques.    What am I going to be in five years from now and in 21 years from now?
Ans.     According to me, five years from now I would want to specialize in my field i.e., IT (after my Masters).  I want to be successful and make my parents very proud of me. Well, I’ve never thought of where I’ll be after 21. But, I actually want to be very successful, happy and want to spend my life peacefully.

Ques.   What is it that I have to develop myself to be what I should be in next 5 years and 21 years?
Ans.     There are a lot of things that I have to develop in myself. This is the only time when I can improve myself so that I can have a better career. All my hardwork will help me in making a better future, and also develop many inner qualities that I lack right now. And, 21 years is a very long time, so even if I think about it, I want to become an IT professionalist and right now improve myself accordingly.

Ques.    How serious am I to achieve the goal of my life?
Ans.    I am very serious about the goals that I have to achieve in my future. If I don’t work hard from now itself, I will never achieve success. I need to have patience and need to work hard which will improve my qualities and also develop some new qualities that will help me in my future. Few days back, I was not very serious about my studies but now I realize that without studies, I cannot reach my goals. To achieve something, to be something in life, a lot of hardwork is required, so I have prepared myself and I will start working very hard to achieve the desired goals.

Different roles..

Different Roles that I play everyday

“Life is like riding a bicycle. To keep your balance, you must keep moving.” – Albert Einstein
Truly said, no matter what kind of roles we play everyday, life still goes on, and we have no control over it. I play many roles everyday, like a daughter, sister, student, friend while some roles are yet to be played in the near future. I won’t say that I am the best in playing these roles, but I still try to live up to people’s expectations. It is also truly said by Mae West that “You only live once, but if you do it right, once is enough.” As we are given just one life, we should make the best out of it and play the roles efficiently.

So, let me begin with some primary roles.
6.00 am in the morning, the worst part of my everyday life where I have to wake up for my morning classes. It was a normal Sunday morning where my dad was trying to wake me up and me being the usual lazy girl didn’t wanted to leave my cozy bed. I realized that I have to get up anyhow, so I woke up and went to freshen up. Then, later I went to the kitchen where my mom was preparing food for me. Though, I never like eating in the morning, I still have to because my mom gives a strange look. This happens almost everyday so whenever I say no to food, her same reaction is expected. Even after all this, I do eat because she wakes up early just to prepare food for me. Here, I realize I am playing the role of a daughter where I am giving them respect by agreeing to whatever they say.

Then, it was my college time. As I entered my college, I realized I will be playing two roles- one of a student and the other one of a friend. I was in café with some of my friends. There we were discussing about our assignment, different problems and also making fun of each other. However, then it was our class time. Our teacher was asking various questions, and I tried to give the right answers. He seemed happy as the answers given were correct. There, I was playing the role of a student. When I came back home, my brother was waiting for me. He was having some problems with his homeworks, so I helped him to get through it and there I was playing the role of an elder sister.

Just like primary roles, there are some secondary roles too that I play, may be not everyday, but once in a while.
While walking on the road, I saw a lot of garbage on the road. A thought came into my mind that if my single step of throwing the garbage in the dustbin can help our mother earth, then why not do that. Looking at the trash, I decided I will throw the wrappers in the dustbin from now on. There I was playing the role of a citizen, who’s trying to protect the global earth. Sometimes when I go shopping, I play the role of a customer, when I meet someone in my society, I play the role of a neighbor. Usually, these roles go unnoticed, but I still try to play it in an efficient way.

So, these are the different roles that I play everyday. Every role that I play has its own importance in my life. After giving it a great thought, I realize that I hardly ever notice about these roles that I play in my everyday life. Even if problems or sometime misunderstandings are there, I still try to perform the best and try to keep everyone happy.
